Differences in Manners

Each of us act in a certain way because we were raised in that way. But what do we need to do when we are encountering another different culture? We've got no notice how other people do certain things and adapt to them. It is a little hard because we are facing with different perspectives, but we must do it in order to avoid misunderstandings.

Some examples are: how to act when you yawn or when you blow your nose, tolerance for noise, waiting time period, personal space, etc. It is amazing how culture each culture acts differently! I liked the following quote from brother Ivers: "Familiarize with some of the differences around the world so you're not offended and that you understand where they're coming from".
We had 13 examples of good and bad manners as well. I was impressed with the one with the feet; it is considered an insult to point your feet (particularly the soles) at another person or to display them in any way. I found another article when it mentions another ones 12 Lessons in Manners From Around the World
As TESOL teachers, we will encounter different cultures and manners in our classrooms. We must at least learn the basics of these ones to be able to connect with our students. They will recognize our effort to learn about their culture!
