Culture Miscommunication
The first thing that came to my mind while learning about this is to understand what a cultural difference is, in the website Mighty Recruiter, it is defined in this way: "Cultural differences are the various beliefs, behaviors, languages, practices and expressions considered unique to member of a specific ethnicity, race or national origin" (n.d., par. 1). We might wonder why people act different from us, but it is because they have learned in a different environment.
While I was watching these week videos, I remembered the activity that we did in TESOL Pedagogy 102 regarding to culture differences. It is wonderful to see and learn about the differences that make each culture unique and distinctive.
In my country, I am studying a degree in Translation and Interpretation, and I have learned during the years how important is to know about the other cultures in order to avoid conflict or misunderstandings. I liked the video from the HSBC and the phrase they mentioned: "Never underestimate the importance of local knowledge".
As brother Ivers said, miscommunication is rampant between cultures; it can cause many problems between us if we are not able to differentiate and respect them. In the same way, "don't assume a foreigner's [attitudes] mean the same thing in their culture as they do in your culture".
